Beyond Net Zero - Agriculture Policy – where next? - Inverness 6th June 2024
A presentation on agricultural policy evolution and challenges of a just transition in the journey to net zero to go alongside a presentation on carbon monitoring and sequestration in the context of food production by Prof. John Gilliland OBE. The presentation draws on research from the Scottish Government Environment Natural Resources and Agriculture Strategic Research Programme 2022-27 - particularly the ‘Novel Insights on Scotland’s Rural & Island Economies’ (www.nisrie.scot) and ‘Modelling the socio-economic, greenhouse gas and natural capital impacts of land use policy and opportunities’ projects. Discusses the main policy drivers, some indicators of change, the framework for agricultural support as detailed in the Agriculture and Rural Communities (Scotland) Bill and what new conditions are to be attached to support in 2025.
