Funded by the University Innovation (UIF) from the Scottish Funding Council (SFC), this policy briefing draws on the opinions of nearly 100 arable farmers to explore the viability of implementing the Scottish Government's List of Measures.

To achieve its vision to become a global leader in sustainable and regenerative agriculture, the Scottish Government plans to link rural payments to delivering measures to enhance the environmental performance of farms. This SAC/SRUC study found that arable farmers typically indicated a willingness to adopt these measures, but voiced concerns over the lack of detail and the need for flexibility and funding. To ensure a just transition, regional differences in the viability of measures should be addressed. Challenges included impacts on production, time and financial constraints and lack of knowledge/skills. Training, research, peer-to-peer learning, expert advice and financial support were highlighted as important vehicles to meet these challenges.
