Recent research has been investigating the role of coworking hubs in supporting rural communities and helping to address rural depopulation, linking Scottish hub operators and public bodies with Ireland’s national ConnectedHubs network.
A collaboration between SRUC and UCC, jointly funded by the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Royal Irish Academy, has brought together Irish stakeholders to evaluate current evidence of the impact of hubs on rural area, and draw out areas for ongoing development, further research, and lessons for Scotland to consider a similar model. Workshops with hub operators, community organisations and public sector bodies in Scotland were organised to exploring what a national coworking hub network could achieve.
